Hanging Hearts (Chris Weller, Cole DeGenova, Quin Kirchner) – Where’s Your Head At | June 13, 2025

Progressive jazz trio Hanging Hearts is set to release their latest album titled appropriately for these times – Where’s Your Head At – on June 13, 2025, via Ropeadope. Rooted in Chicago’s tradition of forward-thinking jazz and experimental music, the trio—led by Chris Weller (saxophone) alongside Cole DeGenova (keyboards/synth bass) and Quin Kirchner (drums)—delivers a compelling fusion of jazz, rock intensity, and electronic textures.

At its core, Where’s Your Head At is an exploration of awareness and balance, both internally and within the world at large. The album reflects on personal and collective experiences—the pursuit of dreams, fatherhood, friendship, social justice, and even aliens—while also posing a rhetorical question that invites introspection. The record also marks the formal introduction of Quin Kirchner to the group, with his dynamic presence underscored in the opening track, “Rise.”

With each song, Where’s Your Head At traverses different emotional and thematic landscapes. From the collaborative improvisation of “Rise” to the Hungarian countryside-inspired “Shégera,” the album paints vivid sonic portraits of discovery, resilience, and nostalgia. “Fight Song,” written after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, stands as an anthem of resistance, while “Flock Up ‘N Fly” serves as a poignant tribute to those who have passed. The band’s signature genre-blurring ethos is evident throughout the record, seamlessly blending post-bop, punk, free jazz, and electronic minimalism into a sound that is both visceral and cerebral.

Melding high-energy grooves with avant-garde sensibilities, Hanging Hearts continues to push the boundaries of modern jazz, solidifying their reputation as one of Chicago’s most innovative ensembles. Where’s Your Head At will be available across all major streaming platforms and in physical formats on June 13, 2025.
