The Toadies<\/a> have announced a new album, The Charmer, which they did with the legendary Steve Albini. The band\u2019s latest offering is sure to bring more of the high octane sound they are loved for. The band is also announcing 2026 nationwide tour dates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A press release from The Toadies’ management revealed that The Charmer<\/em> will be released on May 1st, via Spaceflight Records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Charmer<\/em> is among the few projects The Toadies recorded with Steve Albin before his unfortunate passing that have not yet been released.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An extensive nationwide tour will support\u00a0The Charmer\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>through the fall with some select festival stops. Tickets on sale Friday Feb. 20. For more info:\u00a0https:\/\/thetoadies.com\/tour-dates\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working with Albini<\/strong> is something the band wanted to do for a very long time explains bassist Doni Blair:<\/strong> \u201cWorking with Steve was, quite literally, a dream come true. It was everything I wanted and more. In my opinion it was the best recording session I\u2019ve had in 35 years of making albums. The five of us were a team focused on making a great Toadies album, which we did.”  Frontman Vaden Lewis<\/strong> adds: “This album has been a long time in the works, and it’s such a joy to see it come together, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

we went back to basics for this session: all analogue, live takes, high energy.” Drummer Mark Reznicek<\/strong> adds: “I\u2019ve been a fan of Steve Albini\u2019s since I first heard the albums he recorded with the Pixies and PJ Harvey, so being able to record with him is really a dream come true. In fact, when we first signed with a major label, they asked us who we would like to work with and we all said \u201cAlbini!\u201d Well, for whatever reason, the label didn\u2019t go for it. And now 30 years later, it finally happened!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Albini’s<\/strong>\u00a0technique of capturing bands raw and live was the perfect match the for band’s energy resulting in the classic Toadies sound,\u00a0Lewis<\/strong>\u00a0says: “No computers were used for tracking or mixing<\/a>, just old school tape and razor blade.”\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another first for the Toadies<\/strong> is signing with the Austin-based label Spaceflight Records<\/strong>, a one of a kind non-profit record label. Founded by long-time front of house engineer and producer Brett Orrison<\/strong>, documentary filmmaker Sam Douglas<\/strong>, and drummer\/ founder of Interstellar Audio Machines Eric Bice<\/strong>.  The company is staffed with creatives, including Texas musician Bryan Richie<\/strong> of The Sword<\/strong> and Rick Pierik<\/strong> of Nine Mile Records<\/strong> and the advisory board consists of producers, musicians and industry including Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers) Dave Schools (Widespread Panic)<\/strong>, Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas)<\/strong> and music industry veteran Matt Pinfield.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orrison <\/strong>talks about the partnership: \u201cThis felt like a natural fit. Working with Toadies reflects how we approach things at Spaceflight, supporting artists who value ownership, independence, and a sustainable way to make records.\u201d He continues: “The Toadies have never needed context or explanation. Their music holds up on its own, and the way they operate feels intentional rather than reactive. They\u2019re engaged with their audience, still putting weight behind physical records and live shows, and approaching releases with care. It\u2019s about presence and purpose…They are a band that knows what matters.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toadies<\/strong> guitarist Clark Vogeler <\/strong>talks about the band’s new label home: \u201cWe appreciate that they\u2019re musicians and crew workers themselves,\u201d Vogeler continued. \u201cThey also have guys that have long histories in live music, so we just feel like it’s a great partnership for us. It’s different than the major label system, which has been super frustrating for us over the years.\u201d And, as for The Charmer, <\/em><\/strong> \u201cMusically, there\u2019s a kind of new classic rock flavor built into Toadies. There\u2019s always been some ZZ Top, but now there\u2019s some Boston, Bob Seger, and Rolling Stones \u2026 and Vaden is using a lot of 7th chords, which to me can sound panicked. It\u2019s got this extra note in there that makes you feel like something\u2019s not right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Made on their own terms, fulfilling a long-held dream of recording with Albin<\/strong>i and released through a label that puts artists first, The Charmer<\/em><\/strong> is the most defiantly \u201cToadies\u201d Toadies <\/strong>album yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Toadies<\/strong> will hit the road this spring with a rotating lineup of support from Local H+<\/strong>, Vandoliers*<\/strong> and Sparta^<\/strong>. The Black Angels<\/strong> will appear on the Dallas date only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
