Major Lazer brings the party back to the communities that made them with GYALGEBRA, their first full project\u2002in five years and a new era for the group. As Miami Art Week begins, the collective is\u2002releasing the mixtape with a high-octane block party cum rally for Hurricane Melissa relief in Jamaica. Fusing music, culture, and mission, the show is an indicator of\u2002a project that is tied to global collaboration and quintessential Caribbean influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a press release from Major Lazer’s management, The GYALGEBRA <\/em>release party happens Thursday December 4th, from 6pm to 2am in the parking lot at Coyo Taco, <\/strong>2320 NW 2nd Avenue in Wynwood, with all proceeds from ticket and merch sales going towards the American Friends of Jamaica<\/strong> and global crisis response organization CORE<\/strong>‘s Hurricane Melissa relief efforts in Jamaica<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening will feature live sets from Major Lazer Soundsystem <\/strong>along with special guests and friends of Major Lazer<\/strong>, including a rare appearance from Miami legend DJ Chipman <\/strong>(who features on GYALGEBRA<\/em> standout “Jump & Twist”<\/u><\/a>). Admission is free with advance RSVP (RSVP HERE<\/u><\/a>). For those without an RSVP, tickets will be sold at the door. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

GYALGEBRA<\/em>, Major Lazer’s first self-contained music project in five years and its first release with new, UK-based vocalist America Foster,<\/strong> was released Friday, Nov. 21 via Mad Decent\/BECAUSE. The project’s nine tracks were recorded between Jamaica, where Diplo<\/strong> and co-founder Switch<\/strong> originally formed Major Lazer in 2008, and Miami, homebase of Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire<\/strong> and Ape Drums<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While plans had been in place for months to celebrate the release of GYALGEBRA<\/em> with a Miami Art Week block party, Hurricane Melissa and its devastating impact on Jamaica inspired the group to take action. Diplo<\/strong> visited Treasure Beach<\/u><\/a> in the hard-hit western parish of St Elizabeth in November with volunteers from CORE<\/strong> and the St Elizabeth-based BREDS Foundation<\/strong>, delivering food and water to families affected by the storm, and witnessing the devastation first-hand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
