Austin-based artist\u00a0Jelly Ellington\u00a0channels his Americana, Texas-blues grit and Appalachian roots into his newest offering,\u00a0Glow<\/em>.\u00a0At the heart of the new album is a blend of modern indie rock sensibility and classic American songwriting, with vibrant, analog-driven songs full of soaring riffs and introspective lyrics. The singer-songwriter, Jelly Ellington, wrote much of\u00a0Glow\u00a0<\/em>in his hometown of Asheville<\/a>, N.C., drawing on personal experiences and a deep connection to his family\u2019s artistic legacy. Inspired by a visit to the local museum where the work of his great aunt, watercolorist Sallie Ellington Middleton, who was renowned for her botanical paintings, and \u201cBoomtown\u201d architect Douglas Ellington, who built most of Asheville\u2019s iconic buildings in the 20s, were celebrated, he found renewed purpose. The homecoming was full circle for Jelly as the album marks a return to his roots and a moment of reflection, renewal and creative growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jelly brought together a dream team of collaborators as\u00a0Glow\u00a0<\/em>was created over nine days of live tracking with his full band. It was recorded at\u00a0Orb Studios\u00a0in Austin, Texas, and produced by\u00a0Nick Perri\u00a0(Silvertide, Nick Perri & the Underground Thieves) and engineered by\u00a0Austin Asvanonda\u00a0(The War on Drugs,\u00a0 Sam Fender).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The instrumental palette is broad and expressive with Les Pauls, Telecasters, Strats, and stereo-routed Marshall and Super Reverb amps; lush 12-string acoustics evoking Petty and Bryan Adams; vintage pedals from Perri\u2019s own line; and rich textures from a Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Hammond B3, and grand piano, courtesy of keyboardist Cole Gramling, who had his own dedicated piano room in Studio A. The rhythm section was helmed by drummer Alex Geismar (with additional contributions from Alex Duck and Lessly Fisher Jr.) and bassist Stefan Ringer, whose distorted tones added grit and muscle to standout moments like \u201cSail On.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guest features also include\u00a0John Trufant\u00a0on vocals and mandola,\u00a0Les Fisher\u00a0(Jason Mraz) on the drums and bass, Nick Perri lead guitar solo,\u00a0 pedal steel guitarist\u00a0Ryan \u201cStiggie\u201d Stigmon\u00a0(Zach Top), violinist\u00a0Ryan Lorensen, background vocalist\u00a0Candice Sanders\u00a0and\u00a0Curtis Lee, and\u00a0Deshawn \u201cD Vibes\u201d Alexander\u00a0(Kingfish, Marcus King\u2019s band, Watermelon Funk) who delivered a blazing synth solo on \u201cSomebody to Love” (video below).<\/p>\n\n\n
